About the Business
Cygnet Orthodontics moved into our current grade II listed building in May 2006. We brought together our three satellite practices into one purpose built surgery, where we treat our patients with state-of-the art technology in a comfortable and welcoming environment.

In November 2007 we acquired The Staines Orthodontic Clinic following the retirement of the owner. With the support from Surrey PCT we have secured the long-term access to NHS orthodontic treatment in this area.

All our operators are qualified specialist orthodontists who are highly trained and use the latest techniques and materials. They are supported by qualified nursing staff with a friendly reception team that help with the smooth running of the practice.

We are fully computerised and use digital radiography to reduce radiation exposure to our patients. Our waiting rooms and spacious surgeries are fitted with satellite television and climate control. There is also a dedicated oral hygiene area where you are able to clean your teeth on arrival, and learn new brushing techniques to clean around braces.

We have disabled access and welcome patients with any disability. Also two members of staff are able to communicate with sign language.

Ceramic Braces

Ceramic Braces

Clarity aesthetic braces are the clear alternative to metal braces, they are made of composite materials and the brackets are as strong as conventional metal ones.

They have an attractive translucent appearance that “blends in” with your teeth and the comfortable design gives you all the self-confidence you need. Clarity braces do not stain or discolour however the ligatures or tiny clear rubber bands that hold the arch wire on to the ceramic brackets may stain with coffee, tea, curry, red wine and smoking or any other products with strong colouring. Generally this isn’t a problem as the ligatures are changed each time you have an adjustment.

Orthodontics

Orthodontics

Orthodontics is a specialised branch of dentistry concerned with the development and management of irregularities and abnormalities of the teeth, jaws and face. Its aim is to produce a great smile, as well as a healthy and functional bite thus creating greater resistance to disease, improving personal appearance and self-confidence.

This is achieved by using braces, either fixed or removable, to straighten the teeth and correct the bite, both children and adults of any age can benefit from orthodontic treatment.

Braces work by exerting very gentle pressure on to the teeth, which slowly eases them into the desired position. The severity of the case determines treatment time but in most fixed cases this is usually between 12-24 months. Our patients attend every 6-8 weeks to have their braces adjusted.

Orthodontic treatment gives the best results when the patient gives total co-operation. Patients who fail to attend regular appointments or do not wear elastics when instructed will not get the desired results.

In some cases teeth may need to be removed to create space in order to align your teeth. We try to minimise the number of teeth extracted by using the most modern appliances and techniques. If you do require teeth to be removed your own dentist will remove them for you and we will liaise with them directly.

At the end of fixed appliance treatment all patients are provided with retainers. These are usually removable braces which must be worn as instructed in order to keep your teeth straight while they settle into their new position. Failure to wear your retainers can result in your teeth moving.
