What is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root, placed in the jawbone during a minor operation. They are made from titanium or titanium alloy, which allows the implant to fuse to the bone in a process known as Osseointegration. Following the appropriate healing period, the process is completed by attaching a crown or a bridge to the new implant. Alternatively, two or more implants can be placed to secure loose and uncomfortable dentures, giving denture wearers the confidence to eat, smile and speak in public.
